AMT
Design Support Team offers a complete set of integrated collaborative services to support
the design, layout and new product introduction of printed circuit board assemblies.
In recent years the need for higher density and more
complex printed circuit boards have increased considerably. The use of new
technologies and materials has led to ultra small components with reduced lead pitches.
Advanced component packaging such as Chip Scale Packages (CSPs), Micro Ball Grid Arrays
(uBGAs), Flip Chip and 0201 chip components have narrowed the process windows for printed
circuit board layout, fabrication and assembly. At the same time, competitive pressures
are demanding reduced product development and introduction cycle times and cost.
In the past, laying out (designing) a printed circuit board was not much
more than connecting electrical nodes while following a few simple design rules. Today, a
PCB layout designer must have a thorough understanding of printed circuit board
fabrication and assembly processes. Studies have shown that 80% of a product's life cycle
cost is determined during the design cycle. Component package selection, the way pad
geometries and interconnections are generated and controlled will have a direct effect on
the cost and manufacturability of the PCB and assembly. The output of data files from the
CAD system in the right format for PCB fabrication equipment, stencil fabrication,
assembly equipment, inspection equipment, test equipment and fixture generation will have
a direct impact on product introduction cycle time and cost.
At AMT, we blend years of design experience,
component packaging, PCB fabrication, assembly, test and inspection knowledge into a
collaborative process that yields the highest quality results.
